about

Press
“One third of former band El Trio, going solo in 2017 with Drip/Culebra, Jonatan surprises and breaks the mould with his organic and thoughtful instrumentation. A very interesting, innovative, experimental concept.” Songwriting Magazine, UK, FEb. 11. 2018

“In 2017, Jonas went further in a proposal as soloist building an experimental jazz with high degrees of psychedelia, a mix that results in Drip / Culebra a production where the musician and composer is in charge of everything and brings the darkest side of jazz to to empathize with the Afro-Dominican.” Max DRLacrox Cueto, Beehype/Discolai Jan. 2018

The album can be described as avant-garde jazz or maybe as chamber jazz. Concise, improvisational, compositional. There´s a lot of emphasis on texture, contrast, dynamics and subtlety. This work is introspective, visual, descriptive and very personal. The title makes reference to the drip-painting technique as a creative method and also references the symbol of the snake with the tail in its mouth, which has been used to represent the cycle of life, death, renewal and the relation between chaos and order, very relevant to the way this work was made.

Influences/Influencias:
John Zorn, Toné Vicioso - Aumbata, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Luis Terror Dias con Jose Duluc (Areíto), Rabih Abou-Khalil, Bill Frissell, Irka Mateo (Bohutí) y unos cuantos más.
